Functionality and practicality take precedence in the new architectural studio for the School of Architecture, Building and Design at Taylor’s University. The studio strives to be a branding tool that reflects the vision and identity of SABD. Space is designed to be creative, contemporary and innovative to cater to the preferences of Gen-Y students. The utilisation of space stems from the need to accommodate a range of functions, including personal workspace, collaborative space, and public event space. To fulfil the individual requirements of each of these distinct yet connected parcels, a simplistic design strategy was adopted to stimulate studio culture within an open plan layout. Likewise, the incorporation of transformative and flexible spaces in the studio allows easy re-configuration of spaces for diverse functions for peer learning of architecture.
